Obituary for Deirdre Fayetta Jenkins

Deirdre F. Jenkins was born Monday, May 15,1950 in Emporia, Kansas the fifth child of Lewis William Jenkins and Raymona Geneva Harriett Patterson Jenkins.

Dee Dee accepted Christ at an early age and was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Unity Temple on The Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dee Dee attended William Allen White Elementary School in Emporia, Kansas until her family relocated to Topeka, Kansas. In Topeka she attended Parkdale Elementary, East Topeka Junior High, Roosevelt Jr. High and graduated from Topeka High School. She later attended Washburn University and Penn Valley Community College where she studied psychology and history.
Dee Dee worked for Capper Foundation and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until she had a stroke in 1973 and was unable to return to work. Although her stroke left her unable to return to work, DeeDee lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; decorating, cooking, arts, all genres of music, caring for others, chatting and enjoying time with family and friends. Due to health reasons she returned to Topeka in the spring of 2017 after living in Kansas City, Missouri. While she was a resident of Plaza Apartments in Kansas City she enjoyed helping her neighbors, playing “Blackjack” with the other tenants who called her “Blackjack Jenkins” and decorating the apartment complex during the holidays. Dee Dee had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.

Dee Dee married Paul Adams in 1983 who helped to raise her only son, Aaron. They later divorced.

She received her reward of eternal rest on Sunday, November 19, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Raymona Jenkins; brothers, Delbert Lavelle Jenkins (2015) and Andre Jenkins (2016).

Dee Dee is survived by her son, Aaron Lavelle Jenkins of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Jordan and ZaeAndre; siblings, Cheryl Jenkins Batiste, Lewis R. Jenkins, both of Topeka, Kansas, Terria J. Jenkins of Kansas City, Missouri, Karla D. Jenkins, Darrell L. Jenkins, Kim O. Jenkins, Samuel W. Jenkins (Diane) all of Topeka, Kansas and Marva L. Jenkins Murray (Randy) of La Marque, Texas; special friend, Kevin Lillis of Kansas City, Missouri, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
