She attended Chicago Public Schools before relocating to Topeka, Kansas in 1979.

Tang was married to Trent Robinson, they later divorced. She later married Gaylon Steele in 2002. He survives.

Tang gave her life to Christ at an early age while a child in Chicago, Illinois. She loved to sing praises unto the Lord and sang in the church choir. After relocating to Topeka, she attended church at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church and Fellowship of Faith where she sang in the choir and actively participated in other areas when needed. She also sang with the Topeka Community Choir. She later united with Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ where she continued to sing in the church choir and was an Usher. Her love for her church was evident because if she was needed to work in any area of the church she graciously did.

Tang loved to sing and as a young lady she sang with local R & B bands. When she returned to her roots in the church she gave up singing in bands. She worked as a Customer Service Representative and in the fast food industry. She enjoyed cooking especially frying chicken and playing cards. Throughout her life Tang was always full of energy always joking but was known as a very loving and compassionate person. She never met a person who didn’t like her. She was the motherly type who took in “all strays” in other words she opened her home to all. Kevin came into her life and she would call him, nephew, cousin or son. She also had another special cousin, she called nephew, “DeJuan” and her special sister, Lenora Douglas her friend of 38 years.
