Obituary for Warren R. Johnson

Warren R. Johnson was born on March 20, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Hubert Johnson and Flora Henry Johnson. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, Warren passed away peacefully at his home in Grapevine, Texas. He is preceded in his death by his parents and brother, Larry.
Warren attended Topeka Public Schools graduating from Topeka High School. He later attended Washburn University.
Warren married the former Jacqueline Holyfield on July 4, 1963 in Clarksburg, WV. In 1969 they adopted their daughter, Lisa.
Warren was drafted into the United States Army February 7, 1966 and was honorably discharged on September 20, 1966. After the military he worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He later worked for Santa Fe Railroad (currently BNSF) for 34 years, retiring in 2002. He also worked at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel for his brother, Larry for over 20 years.
Warren enjoyed bicycling and was an avid cook. He was known mostly for his homemade dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and barbecue. Each Christmas holiday season for over 20 years Warren will be remembered for his outdoor Christmas displays which brought joy and smiles to those who saw them.
Warren was a member of Church of God at 12th & Lane, Capitol City Community Church of God and Church of God Fellowship. He loved his church and faithfully served as an usher, trustee board member, worked in the kitchen when needed, and took care of the church maintenance. He was always the first person to arrive at the church to open the doors to make sure that when the saints arrived they would be comfortable.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jacqueline; daughter, Lisa Robinson and her husband Bill of Southlake, TX.; brothers, Sokoni Karanja and his wife Ayana of Chicago, Ill. and James Ivan Johnson and his wife, Sharon of Kansas City, KS.; sister, Wilhelmeta Johnson of Topeka, KS.; two grandchildren, Stefani Robinson of Los Angeles, CA. and William Robinson of Southlake, TX.; sister-in-law, Harriett Johnson of Topeka, KS. and numerous
relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him.
